BlackBerry Storm – My review
There are plenty of reviews on the BlackBerry Storm, so most of what I will say has likely been covered in depth by thousands of others. However, I still feel the need to articulate My thoughts on the product.
Lets start with Pros and Cons.
| Pros | Cons | |
| Great display – love the resolution when browsing photos of my family and friends | Buttons on the side of the phone often get inadvertently pressed as result of the device being put in my pocket (pants, coat, bag). I have more photos of my bag liner than I care to ever have of anything. | |
| Nice web browser, clear and legible | Navigation controls suck, rendering the browsing of sites irritating to the point of refusing to. | |
| Speaker phone rocks! I now conduct conference calls using my Storm – don’t have a Polycom readily handy. | Touch screen is clunky and the latency in typing is so severe that I no longer user my Blackberry for emails; which is the primary utility for me.
I now find any reason not to txt or email on my phone. |
|
| Video, Photo etc…is nice. My 8830 didn’t have either feature and while I didn’t care 98% of the time, the 2% of the time that I did…I was regretful having to pass up the opportunity to snap a still of a hottie walking into a street sign. | Unlock feature sucks – simply because the keypad sucks. So I had to shorten my password to “J”.
Product idea: Thumbprint reader as security option. |
|
| The display (when in landscape) are for viewing an email is thinner than Kate Moss on the Atkins Diet.
Forget about navigating thru an email composition to make edits or additions. The sensitivity and accuracy doesn’t exist…might as well start poking people as they walk by; it would certainly get you farther faster. |

The Pros are, IMO “nice to haves” but not critical to the BB demographic while the Cons are absolutely essential and create mass frustration which intern clouds the Pros with a general disgust for the product.
I’m on the hunt for the Blackberry Bold – present understanding is that Verizon (my carrier) doesn’t carry them. Sh*t! In my playing around with the Bold, with what friends have said and with my satisfaction with the 8830, I would buy it in a heartbeat.
